The Widow Project started out with us giving a loaf of bread twice a month to 50 widows. We knew that the need was much greater then this and prayed for resources to be able to do more. When we started this project we had no idea the amount of widows in Cavnic. Until recently, Cavnic was a mining community and because of the dangers that go with that profession, there are around 600 widows in the community. The widows we started with live alone and have less then $30 a month to live on. With the help of our home church The Mission and other churches in Vacaville we were able to extend from the original 50 widows we were helping to 200 widows! We were giving these women flour, sugar, oil, corn meal and a loaf of bread once a month as well as $20 a month during the winter for firewood! These women were overwhelmed by the assistance they recieved from the "nice Americans". The women that we assisted knew from the beginning that this project was going to have to come to an end eventually, but by the grace of God we were able to help these 200 widows for 2 and a half years!
